Attention students looking to study abroad!

The Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE), the official body that approves universities in Zimbabwe, recently announced that degrees from seven foreign universities are no longer recognized in the country. This means these degrees could be considered worthless for jobs or further education in Zimbabwe.

Why Did ZIMCHE Deregister These Universities?

ZIMCHE hasn't revealed specific reasons for each university, but they have stressed the importance of accreditation. Accreditation ensures universities meet quality standards for education.

Without it, your degree might not be accepted by employers or for postgraduate studies in Zimbabwe.

Universities on the Deregistered List:

Here are the foreign universities that are no longer recognized by ZIMCHE:
  • Girne American University (Northern Cyprus)
  • Sharda University of India (India)
  • Near East University (Northern Cyprus)
  • University of Kyrenia (Northern Cyprus)
  • The European University of Lefke (Northern Cyprus)
  • University of Nicosia (Northern Cyprus)
  • Parul University (India)
- Important Note: This university recently appointed musician Gemma Griffiths as their brand ambassador.

What This Means for Students:

If you were considering studying at one of these universities, you'll need to find a new option. Studying at an unaccredited university could be a waste of money and time, as your degree might not be recognized.

How to Protect Yourself:

Before enrolling in any foreign university, especially one located outside Zimbabwe, always check their accreditation status with ZIMCHE. This will help you avoid wasting money and ensure your degree holds value in Zimbabwe.

ZIMCHE encourages everyone to be cautious and verify the accreditation of any foreign university before enrolling.
