Sensational gospel singer, Janet Manyowa is one of the handful of Zimbabwean artists with a functioning website. Other celebrities have neglected it, preferring to focus on social media platforms.
According to research, a website will enable users to reach more consumers, helping to create more opportunities and can sell products and services online. A website has the upper hand in search results over social media.
So far, she has adapted to the demands of technology and is using them to her advantage. She sells her music and other branded products via her website.
The collaboration with Comfort Manyame was mainly done through skype. “We co-wrote the song with Janet over skype. I was in my studio in the US and the song became a reality,” revealed Manyame.
The duet became an instant hit.
During the lockdown, she launched an online competition to recruit and mentor aspiring gospel artists. “The year 2020 was a different and equally difficult year and as such, we wanted to end it on a happy, exciting note,” said her husband, Munya. “This time we wanted to allow dancers to showcase their talents and creativity.”
In 2017, she launched her TV talk show called Redeemed. The programme’s focus is focused on interviewing gospel musicians and industry leaders and Christians who have a story of redemption to share.
Manyowa launched her career in 2014, just six years ago, yet she has made inroads that other musicians are failing to attain. A year later, her singles and videos earned her top charts on the local gospel scene, this earned her the Best Gospel Newcomer award, one of the four in the same year.
Tracing her childhood, her parents said she has always possessed a teachable spirit. “One thing about Janet is she teachable. I had a dream that she will become a worshiper,” her mother said. Despite her fame, she has remained faithful to God. “She is a faithful worshiper and has remained in the church praise team,” her pastor said.
For her efforts, she has been listed among the 100 most influential young Zimbabweans under 40. Janet’s lively vocals have earned her appreciation in the gospel genre. “I used to be a backstage person, I was okay with backing vocals. I still have stage fright,” she admitted during an interview in 2020.
