Nigerian music entrepreneur and singer Mr Eazi has left social media in absolute stitches and disbelief after dropping a bombshell claim during a recent interview on The Beat FM, asserting that he turned down a potential contract with English Premier League giants Chelsea FC to clear the path for legendary midfielder John Obi Mikel!
According to the "Zagadat" crooner, both he and Mikel were linked to a potential move to Stamford Bridge during their younger years. However, Mr Eazi humorously explained that he decided to pursue music because Mikel lacked musical talent, graciously letting the football star take the Stamford Bridge spot.
“They Were Gonna Sign Me: Me and Mikel Obi”
During his engaging interview on The Beat FM, Mr Eazi opened up about his early athletic pursuits with a heavy dose of humor. He casually recounted how close he came to an international football career before redirecting his energy toward building a global music empire.
In His Own Words:“They were gonna sign me. So it was like me and Mikel Obi... I just thought that Mikel Obi does not have talent as a musician. But I can do that. So I let Mikel go to Chelsea.”
The Star-Studded Comparison
Mr Eazi opted to pursue his ambitions in the recording studio, eventually rising to become one of Africa's most successful artists and business executives.
John Obi Mikel went on to enjoy a stellar career with Chelsea FC, winning multiple Premier League titles, the FA Cup, and the UEFA Champions League.
Transitioning From the Pitch to Billions in Music
Reflecting on his career trajectory, the singer compared his tongue-in-cheek decision regarding Chelsea to his strategic approach to the modern music industry.
He noted that stepping back from the constant musical spotlight has allowed him to focus on major business ventures, venture capital investments, and making billions, while giving others room to shine.
“Let Your Brother Shine”: Embracing Collaboration
During the lively conversation, Mr Eazi also tipped his hat to fellow Nigerian artist Seyi Vibez, whom he jokingly hailed as a great Nigerian philosopher for promoting the message of collective success.
Quoting the philosophy of allowing others to take center stage, Mr Eazi emphasized that he is entirely comfortable sharing the spotlight and supporting the next generation of creative talent across the African continent.
