GREETINGS readers, I am writing this issue in my own capacity as Joseph Madziyire, the Zimpraise CEO.

Being an influential youth icon and mentor, I feel there is need to share some of my experiences and vision with you in this special column.

In this issue, I hope to clarify or enlighten fans on some of the issues that have been raised over the years. Read on…

• BRIEF PROFILE

I was born on the 22nd of July 1988 and I will be turning 27 this year.

I was born in a family of five being the fourth born and second son to Dr Aspher and Mrs Josephine Madziyire of AFM.

I did my primary education at Baines Infant and Baines Junior schools respectively.

I did my secondary education up to Form 2 at Milton High and Form 3 and 4 at Bulawayo Adventist College.

I did my Advanced Level at Speciss College.

In 2006, I left for Australia where I attained a degree in Creative Arts (majoring in music and film)

• CALLING
I think I realised my calling at the age of six.

Six years later, we moved to North-end in Bulawayo where my father was an assistant pastor.

There were two separate services for blacks and whites.

After church service, I would go and sit on a piano.

In fact, I taught myself to play the piano.

I can play drums and bass guitar but I specialise on the piano.

This is the only reason I went to Australia to study to put my talent into theory.

• PRESSURE
Being a son to a prominent pastor, there was a bit of pressure because everyone wants to own you.

Your social life is always under the spotlight but I thank my parents who moulded me to be who I am today.

They have been very much supportive in my career.

I managed to overcome a lot of pressure that I faced from the community because I have great parents; they have given me the great character.

• ZIM PRAISE
I founded ZimPraise along with McDonald Chidavaenzi and Garikai Ndanga in 2006 before I left for Australia. McDee was the visionary and still remains one of the advisers of the group.

When I came back in 2010, we have done two series and McDee decided to concentrate on his Eternity project.

I then paid everything to own the name Zimpraise and everything was done in good faith.

There was never an issue over the take-over and we are actually in good books.

Later this year, we will be celebrating our 10th anniversary.

• MILESTONE
We are looking forward at bringing a number of international guests for our 10th anniversary.

If all go according to plan, we hope to hold a three or four-day festival in the second half of this year.

• ACHIEVEMENTS

Being the co-founder, CEO and present of Zimpraise, which is now a holding company, is one of my achievements.

We now have Zimpraise Kids, Women of Praise, and Zimpraise Academy of Creative Arts Institute.

I have received many awards including the Victors Awards as Producer of the Year, National Flag Raiser Award from the Philanthropy Institute of Zimbabwe.

In 2014, I received the Megafest Business Award (Top 20 Business CEOs in Zimbabwe), AFM Business Award (Flag Raiser).

I have been nominated for the Artist of the Year at the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards UK in2014.

In 2015, I was named among the top 100 influential Zimbabweans.

I have also written a book titled Young Boy, Lead which is dedicated to every visionary, focussed and inspired young leaders across the globe.

• MENTORSHIP
I have mentored and managed a number of artistes over the years.

One of my products is Sharon Manyonganise and Lloyd Tevedzai who is now in Canada.

I have also worked with a number of artistes like Sabastian Magacha, Patience Masiyambiri Kudzi Nyakudya, Bethany Pasinawako among others.

• CHALLENGES
We have not been spared by the economic situation in the country and lack of sponsorship has been one of the challenges.

Handling young people’s egos at Zimpraise is also one of the issues since I handle 150 people from different backgrounds, upbringing and denominations.

We usually meet on Sundays for rehearsals and its not easy handling all these people and to convince them that what we are doing is merely ministry.

• EXPLOITATION
I don’t usually respond to people who are usually saying they are being exploited at Zimpraise because we don’t make money at the choir.

For our rehearsals, we need money to cover expenses and since we hold two shows a year, it’s also difficult to raise money.

As for those who think they are being exploited, our books are open for everyone, including Zimra.

In my case, I’m not making money at Zimpraise but I have other businesses that I ranging from real estate among other portfolios.

• LOVE LIFE
I’m single and not in a relationship at the moment. I will only settle once I found the right woman.

Like any other prominent person, there are ladies who would want to seduce me but I am strong enough to protect myself.

In short, it’s not easy for those ladies to make their moves because of the protocol we have at Zimpraise.

• TOURS
As Zimpraise, we have had a number of regional and international tours.

We have been to England in the year 2013 and 2014, Scotland (2014), USA (2014 and 2015), United Arab Emirates (2013) , Botswana (2013 and 2014) and South Africa in 2015.

In 2013, we had sold out gigs in England where we attracted over 2500 fans and our worst show was in 2014 in England as a result of poor marketing on the side of the promoters.

• FORTH-COMING EVENTS
We have a number of projects line-up with the Hymns Night to be held on July 9.

Afterwards, we will hold the Zimpraise Festival in October as part of our10th anniversary.

We have also lined up a tour of Australia in November and another one of US in December.

Prior to this one, we will embark on a tour of South Africa in October. HMetro
