The church will now be run by elders until elections are held in October. Announcing the change in leadership, AFM wrote on its social media page,

A.F.M CHOOSES NEW LEADERSHIP

The AFM national Council part of its Councilors at the Photo and about 750 Assembly convened at Rufaro Conference centre in Masvingo today to elect its New leadership today. The AFM that decided to stay with the original Constitution chose its interim National and provincial representatives until elections in October.

President: Rev C. Chiangwa
Deputy: Rev A. Chinyemba
Secretary: N. Nhira
Administrator: Elder Sebata

However, deposed President Aspher Madziyire is not taking this lying down and has vowed to approach the High Court to have the elections nullified. Madziyire is arguing that the meeting was illegal. Madziyire has also set dates for the presidential election which means that at the moment there are two AFMs, one following Rev. Chiangwa and another following Madziyire. Speaking to H-Metro, Madawo said,

The national elections shall be held on November 3, 2018. We would also want to make an announcement to all our AFM members that they should be careful and desist from relying on messages that are going viral on social media about our church.

We don’t run the church or make decisions and resolutions on social media.
