Kessia Masona, the lead actor on ZBC-TV’s new red-hot situational comedy titled Muchaneta, was mugged by robbers in Cranborne, Harare last week.
According to the strong-willed artiste, the robbers got away with her handbag.
But Kessia, whose robust dance moves made her a firm favourite at the now-defunct Book Café, demonstrated that she is also a bundle of energy off stage when she bravely fought off the robbers.
“I was coming from the Women’s University in Africa (Wua). It happened along FitzJohn Crescent in Cranborne. I lost my handbag that contained my national identity card, student identity card, memory stick and $12,” the popular Muchaneta actress said.
Kessia, who is studying for Bachelor of Science degree in Community Development at Wua, managed to retain her phone.
“They also wanted my mobile phone but I managed to out-wrestle them despite the fact that they had sprayed me some substance which made my eyes feel so painful.
“The incident made me so depressed that I couldn’t even muster the energy to go to the police to report,” she told the Daily News.
Incidentally, two years ago ex-Miss Zimbabwe Anne-Grace Mutambu and her sister Anesu were robbed of various electronic gadgets which included a G-Tel phone and an HP laptop along Shaftesbury Road in Cranborne by five robbers.
The five robbers, whose get-away car was a VW Polo, confronted the ex-Miss Zimbabwe and her sister before assaulting them with clenched fists and booted feet. After the robbery they sped away.
