TWENTY years ago Ditshego and Tlhalefi stood in front of the altar and said: “I do.” On Saturday they did it again, renewing their wedding vows at a beautiful ceremony in Moruleng, Rustenburg, North West.

Apostle Ditshego Tlhowe and his wife, Pastor Tlhalefi Tlhowe, slaughtered two cows.

The main speaker, Pastor Piet Tlhabanyane and his wife Masego arrived in style in a helicopter.

Ditshego and Tlhalefi met at the former Unibo, now North West University, in 1993. In 1995 they started dating and got married a year later.

They went on to become church leaders. Their families said they have never heard complaints from either partner.

Ditshego (45) said the celebration was to rejuvenate their marriage and to encourage other couples to stick it out in marriage. “I want to encourage the youth to look forward to marriage,” he said.

The 43-year-old Tlhalefi said she was only 23 when she got married. Her mother was against it but her father was supportive of the idea. She shed tears as she spoke about her father.

“I promised my colleagues and friends that I was not going to cry today, but I will if I speak about my dad. He contributed a lot to my life. He called me his little girl. If he was here today he would be proud of me.

“He was a bus driver but he sent me to university.”

Pastor Ezekiel Thupayakgosi, the same man who conducted their wedding ceremony 20 years ago, was proud to help the couple renew their vows.
