NEO Mahlaba (19) was craving a cigarette. So he took 50 cents to go and buy a loose draw at a shop nearby. Sadly, he never got to smoke it.
His friend allegedly demanded to have the cigarette, but Neo refused.
So the friend allegedly took out a knife and stabbed him, killing him instantly.

Neo was laid to rest at Etwatwa Cemetery, near Daveyton in Ekurhuleni on Saturday.

“We are shattered that my brother died for a lousy loose draw. We hope his killer rots in jail,” said Promise.
She said on the day her brother was killed he left the house to go and chill with his friends.
“It was hardly 30 minutes after he had left that some of his friends came to call me.
“They took me to a place where a crowd of people was standing around my brother.
“He was not breathing anymore,” she said.
“I think the man who stabbed him might have been holding a grudge about something.
“He couldn’t kill my brother over a cigarette that cost just 50c,” said Promise.
“Neo was a smoker but he always made his own money to buy himself cigarettes – he never bothered us in the house.”
A murder case was opened at Etwatwa Police Station and the suspect is expected to make his second court appearance soon.
