MANCHESTER UNITED are plotting a stunning £65m raid on Chelsea for Eden Hazard.

Manchester United will turn to the unsettled star after being told they stand no chance of landing Real Madrid ace Gareth Bale.

EXCLUSIVE: Man United plot incredible £65m swoop for Chelsea's Eden Hazard
SHOCK: Hazard could be set for a big move
Now Old Trafford bosses are poised to do battle with Paris St-Germain and Bayern Munich for the Belgium international in what could be the summer’s biggest transfer scrap.

Hazard has endured a miserable season at Stamford Bridge, with reports suggesting he has already made up his mind to leave the Premier League champions.

A United source said: “The club has to be realistic and realise that signing Gareth Bale or Cristiano Ronaldo remains a long shot, which means alternative targets come into the equation.

“Eden Hazard is certainly one of those and the type of player United need if they want to start winning trophies again.”

It is understood United’s owners the Glazer family have given executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward the green light to try and lure Hazard to Old Trafford on a deal worth around £250,000-a-week.

But Chelsea hope that appointing legend Didier Drogba as first team coach will help persuade Hazard to stay.

Welsh wizard Bale remains their top transfer target, but Real will refuse to do business with United in the wake of the fall-out between the rivals over David De Gea’s failed move to Madrid last summer.

But United chiefs know they are in desperate need of some marquee signings and that Hazard fits the bill.

Now the pressure is on boss Louis van Gaal to secure Champions League football to boost their chances of landing Hazard.

The 24year-old wants to be competing in the Champions League next season and will wait until the summer before making a decision on his next move.

He has struggled for form and fitness this season and not scored a single goal, but remains one of the biggest talents in world football.

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc has revealed United winger Adnan Januzaj’s loan spell with them was a disaster all round.

Januzaj has returned to United after they cancelled his deal with Dortmund, where the Belgium international made just one league start for the German outfit.

The 20-year-old will now be eased back into the fold under Van Gaal and is not expected to feature in the squad for Saturday’s visit of Sheffield United in the FA Cup third round.

Zorc said: “It was a wish of Adnan to go back. The loan wasn’t a good deal for both sides all in all.”
