It is not frequently that we see an on-field umpire commend the individual endeavour of a player on cricket field. But something rare happened on Day 3 of the third Test between India and South Africa when Ian Gould took out some time to give a pat to Wriddhiman Saha after he grabbed a good catch to dismiss Dane Villas.
Gould, who himself was a wicket-keeper for England, had a brief chat with Saha, after the Indian caught Vilas behind the wicket off the bowling of Ravichandran Ashwin.![]() |
Saha took an excellent catch to dismiss Dane Villas off Ashwin's bowling. |
Even experts in commentary box praised Gould's gesture as he congratulated Saha.
Vilas' wicket was the eighth to fall and Ashwin went on to pick up the remaining two wickets, taking his tally to 12 for the match.
As a result of Ashwin's brilliant show, India ended South Africa's unbeaten nine-year run away from home.
