Ace music promoter Patson “Chipaz” Chimbodza says his good relationship with Jah Prayzah and Winky D helped him pull off what is already being dubbed the "Show of the Year." The two heavyweight musicians will go head-to-head at the Hockey Stadium at the National Sports Stadium on New Year’s Eve for a mega show.

Chipaz, celebrating 21 years as a promoter, emphasized that business is about synergies: "We decided to enter 2026 in style by holding a joint show involving the two artists. History will certainly be made."

The Power of Collaboration

"For me, I have a mutual understanding with all artists," said Chipaz. "Music is art, art is business, and business is about synergies. After we held the Jah Prayzah album launch, we did the Tete-A-Tete gig with Winky D and we noticed that remarkable growth can only come with a combined effort."

Jah Prayzah and Winky D are considered the best musicians in the country today, each with an army of fans debating who is number one. Chipaz believes it is high time collaborations are prioritized: "There is power in collaborations and we have been yearning for this in Zimbabwe over the years."

Jah Prayzah (The Heavyweight)

  • Real Name: Mukudzeyi Mukombe
  • Date of Birth: July 4, 1987 (some sources state 1983)
  • Origin: Uzumba-Maramba-Pfungwe, Mashonaland East
  • Genres: Contemporary Zimbabwean, Afrobeat, Afro Jazz, Mbira Fusion
  • Band: Third Generation
  • Nickname: Musoja (The Soldier)

Raised in Uzumba, Jah Prayzah’s musical journey began in the rural heart of Zimbabwe. His passion was fueled by church singing and the enchanting sound of the mbira. Growing up reading Shona literature refined the poetic and culturally rich writing style that defines his music today.

Jah Prayzah released his debut album Rudo Nerunyararo in 2007, but it was Sungano Yerudo (2009) that put him on Zimbabwe’s musical map. His 2013 album Tsviriyo cemented him as a national superstar and opened doors for major African collaborations with Diamond Platnumz, Yemi Alade, Charma Girl, and more.

His music masterfully blends traditional Zimbabwean influences—jiti, mbira, and folk—with Afrobeat, reggae, and global contemporary sounds. His military-themed brand earned him the title “Musoja,” symbolizing discipline, identity, and cultural pride.

Jah Prayzah holds multiple NAMA and ZIMA awards and has grown into one of Zimbabwe’s biggest cultural ambassadors. Reflecting on his “Ndini Mukudzeyi World Tour,” he said:

“It can only be God. Pasina imimi hapana Jah Prayzah.”

Winky D (The Heavyweight)

  • Real Name: Wallace Chirumiko
  • Date of Birth: February 1, 1983
  • Origin: Kambuzuma, Harare
  • Genres: Reggae, Dancehall, Zimdancehall
  • Nicknames: The Big Man, Ninja President

Winky D grew up in Kambuzuma and started competing in DJ battles at age 16. His stage name evolved from “Wicked DeeJay” to Winky D. He was one of the earliest architects of the Zimdancehall movement, shaping a genre that now dominates Zimbabwe’s urban culture.

Known as the “voice of the voiceless,” Winky D’s music tackles issues many fear to speak about — poverty, social injustice, corruption, drug abuse, and the struggles of everyday Zimbabweans. His lyrical bravery has earned him respect and global recognition.

Winky D has won numerous awards during his career, including the People’s Choice Award at the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA). His concerts consistently draw massive, loyal crowds, further proving his status as one of Zimbabwe’s most beloved icons.
