Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law Vanessa has been rushed to hospital after opening an envelope containing an unidentified white powder, police have said.
Vanessa Trump, 40, opened the letter, which was addressed to her husband Donald Trump Jr., according to investigators. Her mother Bonnie Haydon handled the letter, which was posted to her apartment, before passing it on to her daughter, according to the New York Post.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) later confirmed the white powder had been tested and found to be non-dangerous.
Mrs Trump had called 911 and said she was coughing and felt nauseous after opening the envelope at her Manhattan apartment, police said.
She and two others at the scene were reportedly decontaminated by firefighters before being taken to hospital as a precaution for evaluation.
Following the incident, Ivanka Trump tweeted: "Thinking of @MrsVanessaTrump & wishing I was by her side today. No one deserves to be frightened this way. There is no excuse."
