Mobile operator Telecel Zimbabwe has announced that it has begun the upgrade of the network in readiness for the launch of LTE services by September and to improve quality of service.

The mobile company has announced that it has begun installing the equipment as part of its network upgrade and LTE project which was announced in May this year. The announcement was made while the company was unveiling their latest offering Unlimited Night Data Bundle.

The Unlimited Night Data Bundle promotion which is immediately available to Telecel subscribers can be accessed by dialling *470#. Telecel subscribers will be able to access the service for $1, $2 or $3 via the *470# short code. Once they have subscribed to the service they will be able to access unlimited browsing from 11pm to 5am.

The $1 bundle will be accessed for two nights from 11pm to 5am while the $2 and $3 Unlimited Night Data Bundle will provide unlimited data access for 7 and 14 nights respectively. If a subscriber who is registered to the service continues to browse or use their mobile internet after the 5am and before 11pm will be billed at the normal rate.

"As part of our brand promise to offer affordable, quality mobile telephony services to Zimbabweans, Telecel has yet again introduced an affordable mobile data product which will give our customers the ability to upload and download pictures, stream videos, download music and other social media related activities at high speeds. This product will be of particular interest to scholars who want to do online research," said Mrs Angeline Vere.

Telecel's CEO, Angeline Vere, said the company has embarked on technology upgrades which allow the company to introduce even more innovative data related services for the enjoyment of their customers who will have an improved user experience.

"As part of the plan we announced in May, we have started to install LTE equipment in Harare, Bulawayo, Gweru and Mutare. This phase will be immediately followed by a country-wide deployment of this 4G technology," said Telecel's CEO.

"In addition to the LTE, Telecel will also be upgrading current sites as well as rolling out new 3G sites across the country," added Vere.

LTE is fourth generation mobile technology which allows users super-fast, real time internet connectivity.
