In the wake of their team gold medal victory at the Olympic games in Rio, the United States women’s gymnastics team has been enjoying quite a celebration tour over the past two weeks.

So far, that tour has included the entire team presenting an award at the MTV Music Video Awards, where they met and hung out with stars like Beyonce. It’s also included stops at major-league ballparks. Most notably, individual medalist Aly Raisman threw out the first pitch last week at Fenway Park in Boston while David Ortiz served as her medal holder.

On Saturday, it was Dallas native Madison Kocian’s turn to handle the ceremonial first pitch for her favorite team, the Texas Rangers. Prior to that big moment though, Kocian met many of the Rangers coaches and players, including Adrian Beltre. That meeting then begged one question, which was met with a somewhat surprising response.
Which Olympic gold medalist was happier to meet Adrian Beltre than Beyonce?
The quote: “That’s hard, but I’d have to go with Beltre. Beyonce was very nice and it was awesome meeting her with my teammates and presenting her award (at the VMAs), but I have to go with Beltre. I am a very big Rangers fan.

Translation: Adrian Beltre for the win.

This isn’t to say Beltre isn’t a big deal. He absolutely is, especially in Texas. But Beyonce is a once-in-a-generation star with a following that’s second to no other current star. She’s just second to Beltre in the eyes of Kocian.

That support was rewarded very quickly on Saturday afternoon. In the second inning, Beltre connected for career home run No. 439. That moved him past Andre Dawson and into a tie with Paul Konerko for 42rd on the all-time list. So she not only met him, she got to witness a significant moment.

As for his big perfect, it included some flair as she added a handstand to her windup before delivering a strike.

We see no reason for deductions there. Well done, Madison.
