Sundowns place $2,5m price tag on Billiat

Mamelodi Sundowns could be prepared to sell their star striker Khama Billiat if a club meets their $2,5 million valuation of the Zimbabwe international.

Billiat is believed to be the subject of interest for Egyptian sides, including Al-Ahly, and while Sundowns are keen to hold on to the player, they could be tempted to sell at the right price.European sides, however, are unlikely to be willing to meet Sundowns’ valuation of one of their “CBD” trio.

Billiat is one of the three Sundowns players who made the Confederation of African Football Champions League Team of the Week after their impressive performances thus far in the competition. Teko Modise and Thabo Nthethe were also picked as some of the top performers in the continental competition after Match Day Four.

Modise was a marvel to watch as he pulled the strings and commanded the midfield in Sundowns’ 1-0 win over Egyptian giants, Zamalek, last week.

Billiat tormented the Zamalek defence and came close to scoring on numerous occasions. Nthethe was solid at the back and easily thwarted every attacking effort Zamalek tried.

Cote d’Ivoire giants, Asec Mimosas, also have three players in the team, with defender Nabi Ibrahim Kone, midfielders, Nimaki and Diarrassouba.

Egyptian giants, Al Ahly also have three representatives with defender Ramy Rabia, midfielder, Soliman and goalkeeper, Ahmed El-Moneim making the team.

Zambia’s Zesco United have two players in striker Jackson Mwanza and defender Musikwa.

Meanwhile, Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has made it clear he is not done with reinforcing his side ahead of the new season.

Sundowns have only acquired the services of three players in Sibusiso Vilakazi, Lucky Mohomi and Brazilian Ricardo Nascimento to strengthen their squad.

The former Bafana Bafana coach has confirmed he will add a few players to his squad in order to fill the CAF Champions League spots that have been vacated by the likes of the departed Cuthbert Malajila and Katlego Mashego.

“We still have to fill slots, I am holding on and I know why I am holding on. I think we can have late signings,” he said.

Without mentioning specific players, Mosimane admits he has made mistakes when it came to signing players over the past couple of seasons, but has assured that this time around, he will sign the right calibre and quality players.

“You sign players because you have realised that in that position you need to reinforce, and also you must look at who you are bringing in because we have made a lot of mistakes and brought in good players, but maybe they cannot carry the yellow shirt . . . it is heavy, make no mistake,” he said.

Just like every other coach in the Premiership, Mosimane is not giving much away. — The Citizen
