The Post Office building in Masvingo caught fire this morning following a suspected electrical fault.

The fire was however contained and only two offices were engulfed

A quick reaction by the Masvingo fire brigade averted a possible major disaster at the post office.

According to Masvingo City Engineer, Tawanda Gozo, the fire started from the post office pabx room.

He told the ZBC News that workers from the Post Office heard an explosion in the pabx room, though indicating that the exact cause of the fire is yet to be established.

The fire broke out at around 11.am and when the fire brigade arrived, people were evacuated from the building.

The fire was however quickly contained and just two offices next to the pabx room were affected.

The value of property damaged by the fire is yet to be ascertained.
