Premier League: Arsenal-linked Daniel Sturridge tipped to shine at Euro 2016 by Arsene Wenger

England and Liverpool forward Daniel Sturridge was spectacularly linked with a move to Arsenal over the weekend, and fresh comments from Gunners boss Arsene Wenger have added to the speculation, according to the Star.

The 26-year-old is a perfect fit for Arsenal, with Wenger admitting they need a world-class striker to boost their chances of winning the Premier League next season.

With a perpetual swap between Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck as the preferred striker in recent weeks, it seems Wenger will be looking for a proven, consistent goalscorer for next season.

Speaking ahead of Arsenal's final game against Aston Villa, the experienced manager was full of praise for Sturridge ahead of Euro 2016. He said: "In Portugal (2004), the player of the tournament was (Theo) Zagorakis so that shows it can be anybody.

"I think (Paul) Pogba or (Antoine) Griezmann, or Sturridge - who's not had a long season - could do well."

Sturridge has been in fantastic form this year, with 12 goals in 23 appearances. He hasn't been Jurgen Klopp's definite preference over the season and has constantly had to deny a rift between himself and the German manager.
Sturridge recently declared: "I am someone who wants to play every minute of every match so maybe when i'm not starting, it's hard to take."

Arsenal will need to fork out around £30m for the striker in the summer if they want to secure his signing however, according to reports.

His dissatisfaction with game time, the possible rift with Jurgen Klopp and the praises of Arsene Wenger - alongside admittance that he needs a world-class striker at Arsenal - all point to the possibility of Sturridge becoming a Gunner next season. A move back to Chelsea or Manchester City however, is also not out of the question.
