The Proteas were eliminated from the ICC World Twenty20 after England beat Sri Lanka in the clash in Delhi.

The Proteas needed Sri Lanka to win in order to stand any chance of progressing to the semi-finals.

Alas, it was not to be as England won by 10 runs.

As a result, the West Indies and England will progress from Pool A and South Africa's match against Sri Lanka on Monday (16:00 SA time) becomes a meaningless encounter.

It was an outstanding game as England held their nerve against some audacious Sri Lankan strokeplay, mostly from Mathews whose 73 was made off one leg. They got themselves very, very close; but two brilliant overs from Jordan and Stokes snuffed out Sri Lanka's fire. Breathless stuff.
