Toppled UFC women’s champion Ronda Rousey has broken her silence in the arouse of her appalling crush to Holly Holm at UFC 193.

Rousey will feature on the cover of ESPN The Magazine this week and in an interview with Romana Shelburne — who covered her fight in Melbourne — reveals how devastating the second round knockout was emotionally and physically.

Reportedly speaking with the “stitches in her lip still dissolving, and a few of her teeth still unstable from Holm’s fight-ending kick to the face”, Rousey says she is “really f***ing sad” about losing her undefeated record.

She indicates it could be a significant period of time before she fights again, telling Shelburne from her home in Venice, California: “It might be three to six months before I can eat an apple, let alone take an impact.”

Rousey’s long-stated goal was to retire from the UFC an undefeated champion. That’s changed now, but she’s still maintaining a positive attitude towards her career. “Maybe I can’t do it all before my prime, before my body is done,” Rousey said. “But f*** it, maybe I can.”

She also promises to maintain the same, opinionated person she was before the defeat. “Most people get scared away from having an opinion,” Rousey said. “It’s not so much my opinions everybody relates to, it’s that I don’t care about being punished for it.”

The edition celebrates espnW’s IMPACT25 — an annual list of the 25 athletes and influencers who have made the greatest impact for women in sports.

In its profile of Rousey, the bantamweight is quoted as saying: “I don’t believe too much in regretting s***. It’s a very wasteful use of energy.”
In several interviews this week UFC boss Dana White has insisted there will be a rematch between Rousey and Holm.

White told ESPN’s First Take: “I actually think that Ronda Rousey is bigger now after the loss than she was before the fight” but said she’d be given time to recover. “There’s literally no pressure on her whatsoever to think about anything as far as fighting goes,” White said.

On top of her fight commitments, Rousey also has several film projects coming up in 2016, including the remake of the Patrick Swayze movie Road House and Mile 22, in which she’s set to star alongside Mark Wahlberg.
